Frequently Asked Questions
You might have some questions as you get to know us. The simple guide below will help you decide whether our services are helpful for you or not.
Question 1: Why would I want to record my story?
Storytelling has significant cognitive, emotional, and memory benefits. Telling your story, whether you think it’s meaningful or not, helps you to re-live the most important parts of your life (good or bad). Significant research has shown that storytelling connects us to each other.
Question 2: Why can’t I just record this on my phone?
Documenting your story is a helpful exercise (similar to above, benefits abound for journaling and documenting) and we encourage it. Storytelling adds incremental value to both the input and output. Ask yourself if you’d rather listen to a podcast between two people or a podcast with a single author who. I know which I’d prefer. Adding the interpersonal component makes the storytelling more immersive, less predictable, and more fluid.
One of the biggest benefits of our services is the organization. You may lose your phone through an unfortunate event (thank you toilet bowl!) or may have forgotten to back something up to the cloud you may or may not remember five years from now.
Our audio recordings are professionally mixed and organized, and you’re given a link you can reference on any device, at any time, anywhere you have internet service.
Question 3: What if I’m not good at storytelling?
That’s where we come in. Our intake and consultation process walks through all the topics, structure, tips for interviewing, and ideas to ensure we get the real you in your element. That’s the key reason we come to you (physically or virtually). We want you to be comfortable and not forced when you tell your story.
Plus, we’re willing to bet you’re better at it than you think you are.
Question 4: What if parts of my story are personal, and I don’t want them shared?
As part of our intake process, we ask you to identify which parts of our recordings you want shared with specific audiences. If you have stories that you’d prefer not be shared broadly, we can restrict file/download access.
We keep your stories private and take great care to ensure your stories are kept in high-quality, secure cloud locations.
We also offer the option to download files to an SD drive, if you want a physical asset to use.
Question 5: What if I don’t think I’m old enough to record a story? Isn’t this just for people who are at end of life?
Absolutely not. Our services capture things as they happen. Your story will change as you age, and as you look back, you’ll be glad you recorded things when they were top of mind.
Life is also unpredictable. Grab those stories while you have them fresh in your mind! We’re happy to join weddings (think recording your vows), family reunions, key birthday parties, anniversaries, retirement events, or whatever event you may have where we can record meaningful content.
We’d love to hear your stories! If any of the above resonates with you, reach out.
