Our process

Because we’re new here, you may be asking how we record your story. Here’s a bit of insight into how the process works.

Once you submit an initial request form, we’ll reach out as soon as possible to schedule our initial (free) consultation. Depending on what you’re wanting to do, we create a plan and select pricing before moving forward. You’re in the driver’s seat the whole time.

An important part of our process is understanding best how to help you. We have some critical questions we ask as part of the planning process that help us understand the nature of what we’re recording, who will attend, and how private or how open you want your stories to be. We do this to ensure both we and you feel comfortable with what’s shared and how we distribute the end product. During this process, we discuss story types, questions, setting, and time. You’re given time to select which items you want to talk about and which you don’t.

The day of the recording (if in-person), we show up 30-60 minutes before we begin recording to walk you through the recording process. We get mics set up, talk through the editing process, and ensure you’re comfortable and feeling open to tell your stories. If others join, we ensure they understand how to balance good participation while ensuring the best audio output.

As you record, you can stop us or notate sections you want to re-tell. We take the time to make sure you feel you’re getting the best version of the story. Once we’re done recording, we’ll take any pictures requested and discuss any cuts/edits you want made in production.

We send all audio and video to our audio professional, who mixes, cuts, and edits the tracks of audio individually to remove outside noise, volume levels, and other items. They then send us a final file, which we compile and organize with any pictures taken, and prepare the QR code for distribution based on your privacy and sharing preferences.

When we’re finished, we’ll send you an email with attachments, links to relevant files, and a QR code to access your audio and photos. That link will remain life for years to come, and you’re welcome to share the link with loved ones as you’d like.
